HERE ARE SOME BARE-BONES PROMPTS I DONT HAVE A LOT OF IDEAS RIGHT NOW.

Horses in/from spaaaaace! Maurice is a "Sagittarian" alien crash-landed SOMEWHERE. Or maybe you're both in space and just happened to run into each other at some intergalactic pitstop. Space jail?

Generic fantasy land. Think SHREK-levels of fantasy here. Hard fantasy bores me. Does your character encounter him on a quest?

Bullshit modern fantasy land. Your favorite Coffee AU but there's monster people?

Circus? Maybe he's part of some corrupt ringmaster's collection.

Baleful polymorph: he didn't USED to be a centaur but he is now. Is your character same as before or also something new?

Blind date set up by friends or on the internet. Can never tell with some folks' dating profiles. Can be in any setting. Your character does not know what their date looks like.

Video game AU? Is there a game that has centaurs in it as enemies or whatever?

Feel free to start with an opener of your own or just reply here with a scenario from above that you've picked and I'll do one. I like prose the most but can happily RP in [brackets] if that's easier for you! Also sorry I don't have a lot of icons on this account. Replies may also sometimes come from toothaches too if I forget to log out.

[So up until a week or so ago Tyler Warrens - commonly called Tai by friends - had thought he was a completely normal human. Of course he knew that the world was anything but normal, but he'd been a plain old human, in a plain old town that only had the occasional nymph hiding in the forest that surrounded it (to his knowledge).

Then he set the curtains on fire during a silly argument with his mother and discovered that maybe he wasn't so normal after all.

His world was very quickly turned on it's head as he discovered quite a few things. The first and foremost was that he was not a normal human - unless being half dragon counted as normal now. The second one was that now that those handy-dandy fire powers were awakened he had to go figure out how to control them because Mom did not want to buy new curtains every time he lost control of them.

(He could not blame her for that.)

So a week later found him leaving the towns borders with just a knapsack, heading off on a quest to find a teacher or purpose or... Whatever. He really didn't know what he was doing but Kou had suggested heading north to the next town. It wasn't long before he got lost, though. That made him groan, dragging a hand down his face as he looked around. It was then that he spotted a centaur - perhaps on their own journey.]

Hey, dude! [He hollered out, hoping to catch the man-horse's attention.] Do you have a map I could look at for a second?

[A very fast journey.]

[A journey that was taking him away from the angry shouting fellows on actual horseback who were chasing him with lassos. The centaur they are pursuing looks pretty worse for wear--his white coat is stained with mud and blood and his mane and tail are a mess. His hairless half is dressed in a patchwork of bright colors also marred by the cruelty of the road and whatever treatment he's trying to escape from.]

[The gap between them is closing swiftly.]</sub>

_{[He rushes by, tail waving like a banner.]}

H-Hey wait!

[He shouts after the centaur, but it's too late. He's passed by far too quickly leaving Tai standing in the dust.

Well. Not quickly enough. Tai still notices the blood staining his coat, the cruelty reading loud and clear. It's enough to start the crackling embers of anger. His attention soon turns to the thundering hooves of the horses and men the centaur had been running from. The embers crackle a bit louder.

Tyler Warrens has never liked people who hurt others.

He looks from the approaching fellows to the fleeing centaur, cupping his hands around his mouth and hollering after Maurice.]

If I chase them away will you give me a hand!?

[Because Tai could totally do that... Right? Right. All he had to do was figure out how to use his fire powers.]

_{[The horse fellow's voice is already fading as he makes his way over another hill.]}

IF YOU LOSE THOSE GUYS, I'LL OWE YOU A LIFE DEBT!

_{[And like that, the men on horseback were upon Tai. They shouted at him to move aside, that their quarry and their property was escaping.]}

[Glancing back over his shoulder at the voice he watches the horse vanish over the hill. After that his attention is on the men on horseback. He stands firm, arms crossed over his chest. He could do this.]

He's not your property so back off!

[Of course they don't listen. Tai didn't expect them too, he was just hoping maybe he'd figure out how to properly make a spark in that short amount of time. He didn't, but when one of the men tried to go around him he darted in front of them. Again they asserted that the centaur was their property, adding on that if Tai knew what was good for him then he would move aside.]

I said back off!

[And that was perhaps shouted, and in response to his angry shout one single column of fire springing up like a geyser right between him and the man, spooking the horse. Right, right, he had to be angry to make fire... Given the circumstances, that wasn't hard. So he remembered again the marks of cruelty on the fleeing centaur, the panic and imagining others like him that might still be with the men on horseback.

That set his blood boiling. Before he could even really realize it the geyser of flames had spread into a wall, separating the men from him and spooking the horses.]

Get lost!

[And they did - though Tai wasn't sure if his little show would keep them away for long. With a small breath the wall of fire faded away. Once it was gone and he was sure nothing had actually caught on fire he turns around, running in the direction the centaur had gone. Hopefully he could catch up.]

<sub>[The stranger had put quite a bit of distance between himself and the fiery scene but he couldn't keep it up forever. Maurice had finally collapsed off the side of the road in a small washed out gulley. He lay on his side with one hoof pulled forward and turned so that he could look at the tender underside. He'd stepped on something sharp.]

[When Tai's footfalls met his ears, they stood tall and Maurice all but broke his own neck in attempts to stand again, tail high. It was not the thunder of hooves though and when the boy appeared, he heaved a sigh.]</sub>

You really...got 'em to leave?

[When Tai comes across Maurice again he can't help but feel relieved. He comes to a halt, doubling over to catch his breath. There's a nod in response to a question, though he has to frown.]

Yeah, I mean, they might come back this way but I scared them off for a bit. Hard to walk through fire.

[The frown became more worried.]

You okay?

Fire...

_{[The centaur's ears sweep forward and back--curious but wary. His white sides heave in and out. He's just as out of breath as Tai.]}

Messed my feet up pretty good but...I can still walk. I've come this far. It'd be stupid to keel over now. Thank you. I--I owe you! Big time! If you see a big progression of carriages with black and blue banners, steer clear or they might snatch you up and make you into their new juggler!

Don't think I'd make a good juggler. I can only handle throwing one thing into the air... [He scratches his nose, glancing back over his shoulder.] Those guys with a circus or something?

[Soon his attention turns back to the centaur. He stays where he is, though, not wanting to spook the centaur.]

Can I see your feet? I mean my friends the healer not me but maybe I can help... Or if you need help gettin' someplace I've got no where to be, I can help you get there.

A circus...a zoo more like.

_{[He lets out a disgusted snort and slowly starts to pick his way along the shallow gully in search of the spot where it would be easiest to climb out.]}

The only place I'm going is away.

_{[Though he is walking away from Tai and his eyes are on the rocky ground, his ears are swept backwards still facing him. Tai has his attention.]}

What are you doing on a road if you're not goin' nowhere?

You... Wouldn't believe me if I told you.

[He begins to follow after Maurice, hands in his pockets.]

Ever meet up with a dragon?

_{[That catches his attention. Maurice turns to look up at him, ears now pointed toward the path.]}

I used to be a living display. I've heard some weird things. Try me.

_{[Tai's question gets him thinking.]}

Not an alive one...

[In response to Maurice's last comment he raises his hand.]

Yo. [He gives a sheepish little smile.] Sorta, at least. I'm apparently half? Was kinda hoping you might've been able to point me in the direction of a full fledged one since I kinda have no idea what I'm doing.

_{[His ears perk forward even more. It's obvious how closely he's looking at Tai now--looking for ANYTHING that could make this guy look like he was part giant fire breathing reptile.]}

Uuuuh, no, sorry. The only dragons I know about are behind glass.

Figured it was a long shot to ask.

[The smile doesn't falter, even if he feels a little defeated but it's still early in this little quest of his. He raises a hand, pushing some hair out of his eyes.

All in all he looks like an average human being opposed to part giant lizard. Well... Except are those red scales on his arm peeking out just beneath his sleeve? Oh boy Tai's going to flip when he notices that.]

Where're you gonna go now?

_{[Maurice notes those, but it doesn't even cross his mind to point them out. Instead, he trots ahead again and finally finds a shallow enough place to step up onto the road.]}

That's a good question...somewhere with some different clothes. And work.

_{[His ears droop. From show horse to work horse. Thus was his life.]}

[While he'd like to hurry his pace a bit to catch up when Maurice trots he forces himself to keep his pace the same. His head cocks to the side, the smile finally taking a town turn.]

I'd offer you some of my spare clothes but I donno if they'll fit you.

[Tai is a very tall and lanky fellow.]

Wish I could tell you a good place to go for work. There aren't a lot of new jobs back in my town... Plus, uh, we don't really see centaurs and stuff so people would stare a lot.

_{[He has to laugh a little at the thought of trying to wear anything that belongs to Tai. Maurice shrugs and bends down to inspect a cut on one of his forelegs.]}

Well it's not like I aint used to bein' stared at. I would at least like to be paid by the people doing the staring.

Guess that's a good point. Would be... Ah hey wait.

[He unslings his bag, sorting through it as he approaches.]

I've got some bandages and stuff in here. We can get those cleaned up quick.

<sub>[The horseman stops, ears cocked curiously. There's a part of him that hopes he's going to pull out some sugar cubes.]
