[Envy doesn't respond right away because he's way too busy gaping. Not horrified, but definitely surprised. All those little things he thought he must be imagining last night all make PERFECT SENSE now.]

[He hadn't expected to not be the only nonhuman of the two of them.]

[By the time Maurice has reached the shoreline, Envy has both decided that he's still not going to reveal his own secret, and found his voice again.]

I...we sure will, and plenty of it. It's too bad about your ship, you must have sailed right into that reef.
exeggutorhead: (come on guys I'm reading)

[Envy's heard about Sagittarians, even seen a few here and there, but he's never actually met one. And kelpies like him are few and far between. But here there's another horse man and he's not entirely sure what to think.]

[SO HE'LL JUST ROLL WITH IT. Even if he's still looking at Maurice funny.]

Sailing all by yourself, it's not surprising you got in over your head in that storm.

[Envy peers out over the ocean. Not a ship in sight. Ugh.]

I didn't like it in there, but I slept fine. My ship didn't hit this reef, I don't know how far I got washed away from it.

[Or...swam. But even though Maurice IS another horse, and doesn't SEEM like he's that untrustworthy, Envy hasn't lived this long on the high seas by letting people know that they could theoretically control him with anything shaped like a bridle.]

But if we're going to cook, we need to find some food first.

...hopefully not centipedes.
toothaches: (just hold on to that feelin)

[Maurice makes a noise that's half a shriek and half a laugh at the mention of centipedes. He can appreciate the humor...but UGH BUGS!!!]

If I find any you'll be the first to know...

[He slogs his way over to the smaller man and holds out a hand.]

Guess we ought t' get to know each other. Captain Hutch at your service.

[He's oddly perky for someone who's just lost literally everything.]
exeggutorhead: (smirk)

[personal profile] exeggutorhead 2016-02-15 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, Envy...is noticing that.]

[But he goes ahead and sticks out his hand, catching Maurice's in a firm handshake.]

Might as well, seeing as how we're stuck here for now. I'm Envy, first mate.

Captain, huh?

[Apparently captain of just himself, but hey. He grins in a way that's half a smirk, but not an unfriendly one. It's just how an Envy do.]
toothaches: (i dont follow)

[personal profile] toothaches 2016-02-16 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
[This seaweed-headed fellow's got a good shake for such a weedy-looking guy and Maurice can respect that.]

Yessir!

[Squint. He is a sir, right? Maurice is in a near perpetual state of hungover and he has Made Mistakes before.]

Well, Envy, I'm gonna start working on something to head home in. You're welcome to come along if you don't want to wait for your crew. Who you sail under?
exeggutorhead: (I'm so pretty)

[personal profile] exeggutorhead 2016-03-19 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, Envy doesn't correct him about the sir, or make any sort of expression to indicate that Maurice has made an Error. Dingdingding!]

I don't want my crew going anywhere near that reef to come get me, and I'm not sure they even know where to look or that I'm still alive. I'll come along with you, the work'll go quicker with two.

And I sail under Captain Pride, on the ship the Deadly. We wound up with something of a theme under our last captain, ha.

[Who are Definitely Pirates, but hardly big names. Maybe Maurice won't know, and if he does, he might think twice about stabbing Envy in the back. He still doesn't know the other well enough to trust that he wouldn't.]
toothaches: (happy)

The Deadly....

[Maurice clucked his tongue and looked like he was thinking very hard about that. He pawed at the sand with a forehoof.]

Never heard of 'em but I haven't been on the water that long. Kinda surprised it took this long for my first real disaster to strike! It's--kinda excitin' aint it? Bein' shipwrecked just like in the books--not that I read. But I've heard about books about this kind of thing.

[A silence falls save for the distant call of some tropical bird.]

WELP! This wood aint gonna dry itself!

[He picks up his load again and stumble-trots away in search of a place to lay it all out.]
