"Uh-huh. Sure."

Ginko glanced up from wrestling with his shoe and raised his eyebrows. "Yeah? What happened?"

"They turned me into a sparrow. If it weren't for Vidiya, I probably would have been eaten by a hawk or a raccoon or something....VIDIYA!" JW stood up all at once, lost his balance, and fell against the railing, scooting down at least three stairs before coming to a stop. "Ow. Ow. We can go to Vidiya and get you sorted out! Forget those overgrown mosquitos and their poptarts!"

Whoa that was sudden. Ginko winced a little as JW slipped. "Careful-- but alright, yeah, we should probably get going, then..."

With another tug, he managed to get his shoe off... then stared down at the hoof underneath for a few seconds.

"We should get going soon.."

JW winced and looked down at the furry hoof poking out of Ginko's pants leg.

"I've got...a feelin' you aren't gonna fit in the passenger's seat for much longer, man. And I shouldn't drive like this...I'll call her. You sit tight, okay?"

He halfway crawled back up the stairs to clap a hand on Ginko's shoulder and give it a reassuring squeeze before stumbling back downstairs and into the kitchen to dig for the notebook he kept all his contacts in.

"Yeah. Sounds like a plan."

He watches as JW leaves, then just... crosses his arms over his legs and rests his forehead on them. Despite JW's apparent assumptions, he actually hadn't been panicking... but, he had to admit, this was pretty stressful. He didn't even know what to do about it, either.

For quite some time there's nothing but quiet rustling from the kitchen below and anxious pacing footfalls. JW knows Vidiya hates phonecalls but he has to keep trying.

While Ginko sat atop the stairs, a fluttering came from above as Harmony rejoined him. The angel landed on his shoulder once again and his wings seemed even worse for ware than they had earlier. Ears and tails were one thing--the fae loved to humiliate humans. But now that pain was on the table, Harmony was short of worrying himself into a stroke.

"The important thing is to remain calm," he said in a near perfect echo of JW's mantra from moments ago.

Ginko let out a drawn-out groan.

"Yeah, I know. I'm doing that." He sounded very tired.

Harmony drew himself up in surprise and was silent for a good long minute before he was unable to stop babbling.

"Of course there's no shame in panicking either, I just mean, you obviously shouldn't keep that bottled up inside because it isn't healthy--"

it went on and on like that.

When it became clear that he wasn't going to stop talking any time soon, Ginko lifted his head, staring up warily at Harmony.

"Harmony. It's fine. I'm not bottling anything up." It wasn't a total lie.

He shifted a bit, stretching out his legs and frowning down at the hooves where his feet should have been. "I'm used to strange afflictions - this one is a little new, sure, but the basic principle of it is close enough."

Sort of.

When Ginko looked up, Harmony gave a few fluttering hops so that he could land further down the man's arm and speak eye to eye more easily. He wrung his hands together and leaned to listen to the fumbling coming from the kitchen below.

"Ah, yes. The mushi." Harmony drummed his fingertips together before unfolding a wing and attempting to smooth the feathers down. "I've heard plenty about them, your job is incredibly perilous. I admire you for putting your life on the line to keep those who can't see them safe..."

He could only imagine the stress Ginko's own conscience was under and he couldn't help leaning forward a little and staring into the man's remaining eye. Who was in there looking out at him?

Ginko blinked in vague surprise, his fuzzy ears twitching. "Oh, uh-- thank you."

Then his brow furrowed a little. "...Is something wrong?"

Harmony was silent a moment longer before turning his head away and keeping an eye on the kitchen door.

"Other than your slow and painful metamorphosis, not a thing."

After watching Harmony for a moment, Ginko gave a quiet sigh.

"...I'm sure I'll be alright. JW is working on figuring out a way out of it already."

Harmony started to say something but footfalls on the stairs made him disappear like one of those clay pigeons. He darted away down the hallway leaving teeny feathers in his wake.

JW all but clung to the railing as he made his way back up the stairs.

"I got ahold of her. She's gonna come over here. Let's...get you downstairs."

He offered a twiggy arm for Ginko to take. He wasn't sure how far this transformation was going to go, but he was sure that if hooves were going to be involved they needed to be closer to the actual ground.

Ginko nodded and hauled himself to his feet, taking hold of JW's arm with one hand and holding on tightly to the railing with the other.

"Right... okay." He grimaced as he took a couple unsteady steps down the stairs. Yeah, he had figured this wouldn't be easy.

"I got ya...I got ya." JW grunted as he helped Ginko step by step. "You've got a cool head on your shouders, y'know that? I like that about you. Seen just about everything, am I right?"

JW's throat tightened with worry but he did a much better job keeping a lid on things than his better half. Once they reached the bottom floor, he led Ginko to the sofa and, after a thought, scooted the coffee table and television over near the fireplace. Just in case. He liked that TV.

"I guess... thanks."

Ginko dropped down onto the sofa with a sigh, resting a lef on his knee so he could rub at his ankle. It still felt weird.

"Sorry about all this... somehow, I doubt this was your original plan for today."

JW plunked down heavily onto the coffee table so that he could sit across from Ginko and watch him anxiously.

"Mmmnnnnno, not really. There'll be other sunny days." He swallowed and for a moment he seemed eerily calm. Then that shattered. "The important thing is not to panic. Maybe--maybe you're done! Maybe Vidia will get here in the next ten minutes and we'll all l-laugh about this."

Ginko looked up at JW, worry creasing his brow... as if he himself wasn't the one who seemed to be turning into an animal.

He pushed himself to his hooves, still shaky, and reached for JW's hand. "Just breathe, okay?"

"I AM BREATHING!"

It came out like a gunshot and instantly JW wished he could gasp hard enough to suck the words back down his throat. He'd yanked his hand out of Ginko's reach but tenativly reached out for it again.

"I'm sorry."

At first Ginko went tense, his reaction otherwise invisible except for a very slight widening of his one eye. He let out a slow, shaky breath when JW apologized, and took his hand gently.

"It's alright. I'm, uh. I'm sorry if I'm bothering you."

"No, no! Bother me! Please! I'm just...afraid for you."

He slouched forward, utterly exhuasted, and rested his forehead against Ginko's hand...or...what was a hand a few seconds ago.

"Ginko!"

He had sort of already noticed that JW was, fairly obviously, worried, but something about hearing him say it outright made Ginko's heart jump in a way that struck him as totally inappropriate to the situation.

Then he jolted at JW's exclamation, his eye widening as he caught sight of the hoof that had managed to form without him noticing. "Oh-- dammit, I hadn't even noticed that!"

"It's still going. Damn it! Damn it damn it!"

He refused to freak out this time. JW just stared at Ginko's horrible hoof hand with an expression that didn't know if it wanted to be a grin or a grimace. A grinnace?

"It's...probably the weed talking...but a hoof sticking out of your sleeve like that is kind of hilarious in a really awful way."

"It's-- it's fine, it's alright. It didn't even hurt this time."

Which struck him as odd, given that this change was very similar to the last one, but he wasn't complaining.

He raised his eyebrows slightly at JW, then glanced down at the hoof with a snort. "...No, I can see where you're coming from there."
