Shenzi shot a look of instant disdain over her shoulder at the sickly looking fat guy.
"Uh, no. Scram."
The nerve! Asking if she wanted help, pft, at least his shirt looked kind of cool. And he seemed nervous- rightly so! And if this little shit would just Stop. Squirming. Then maybe the bandages would actually hold-
"FINE!"
She thrust the squirming, chomping 'yena into those chubby hands of a questionable color.
"And that's enough outta YOU" she pointed a finger accusingly at the beast and he shut his yap with a reluctant glare.
When Shenzi snapped at him, he recoiled. Wow, sheesh, that'll teach him to be nice to strangers. He was just about to abandon her and her bad attitude when suddenly there was a wiggling puppy in his hands! Maurice was still a super noob and had yet to see a chompy little Pokemon like this. For the first five seconds he was utterly delighted because oh my goodness a puppy! But then came the whole issue of what was going on. It was hurt.
He seemed to be handling the snappy poochyena rather well, so maybe he wasn't completely useless after all. She decided to soften up a little bit.
"A flocka those...whaddya call 'em? Rats with wings!"
The 'yena seemed to growl in acknowledgment. The flying rats, or "Spearow" as they were usually called, had been too much to handle altogether.
"We were so sure we could take 'em... Can't say I blame them though, ya mess with one, you mess with 'em all, am I right?"
She grinned as she finished wrapping (if you could call it that) the wound, and the beast quickly scrambled from the man's hands.
"Anyway... thanks for your help I guess..." she mumbled awkwardly, not so used to niceties. "The name's Shenzi, this lil' shit is Chunk," she motioned with her foot at the poochyena who was already licking at his bandage.
She eyed the spiky looking vermin on his shoulder curiously, wondering where you could find a Sally and whether or not it was a snack he was saving for later. Before she could inquire though, the man jutted his hand out towards her, causing her to jump back in surprise!
"Hey!" she shouted instinctively, glaring from his hand to his face. "I wasn't gonna eat her or nothin', sheesh, what's this for??"
Maurice himself jumped back when she shouted and Sally let out a cheep of alarm, struggling to stay on his trainer's shoulder. His hand stayed outstretched.
"What?" He baffled at her. Why would she...okay, he wasn't going to wonder about that. "I was, uh. A handshake?" Ooooh, maybe she was from a different Earth. He swapped tunes in an instant and dared to lean a little closer, chompy pup nearby or not. "It's how folks where I'm from say hello."
Her golden eyes leered down at his hand. That pale, unmoving, persistent hand.
"Oh, of course, I knew that!" she scoffed as she rolled her eyes and chuckled nervously. That hand. What was she supposed to do with it? Bite it? No... It was certainly different than sniffing someone's rump, come to think of it...she hadn't seen many people doing that.
Tentatively she lifted her arm to reach for Maurice's hand, but instead of grasping it in a proper shake, she reached out and grabbed his fingers limply. Her confused gaze didn't leave their two very different hands.
Maurice's face brightened when Shenzi seemed to get the idea right away. When she took his pudgy fingers in hers, he slid his hand forward to properly take hold. Then he pumped her arm up and down.

Sally nodded from his shoulder and looked down at Chunk. He really wanted to play, but Chunk didn't exactly look...friendly.
"I'm Maurice." He offered a hand. "And this is Sally. Nice t'meet you."

Obviously he could read minds, or something.
