Olee made it under the motel awning just in time for the first true lion's roar of thunder. Now it was raining sideways and the wind all but plastered him against one of the parked cars. He shook out his wings, all six eyes squeezed shut, and then tucked them away into nothingness. Then he hefted the big plastic pizza case out from under his arms and peeked inside. It didn't look like anything had shifted around during the flight.
He shoved his coat sleeve up and glanced at his watch. "Yes."
He didn't have to pay for the pizza! Olee followed the walk around the corner, looked for the right door number, and knocked.
Tobias doesn't normally stay in motels, but with those massive thunderheads on the horizon? No way is was staying outside. And the little flyer that had been shoved under the door to advertise pizza had sounded like a great idea. He hasn't had pizza in ages.
It's not until the first crash of thunder rattles the cheap windows that Tobias remembers that somebody would have had to deliver that pizza in this.
He pulls open the door right away when he hears the knock, trying to keep his hair from flickering noticeably and looking some mix of sheepish and concerned.
"Um. Hey, thanks."
SORRY HE MADE YOU COME OUT HERE IN THE STORM, MAN.
"You can come in for a minute, if you want, get out of the rain. Lemme grab the money."
Olee's mess of blue hair, meanwhile, looks like it's been through a tornado. Which it has. He's too busy focusing on his PRODUCE PIZZA, GET MONEY task for the moment to notice anything being up with Tobias's do. He unzips the bag again and proudly presents the cardboard box.
Another thunderclap crashes overhead and Olee grits his teeth. He wheels around and stares up at the sky as if it might leap down at him at any moment. "I think I will. Thank you so much."
He bustles by, clutching the pizza and its case to his chest.
"You're our only delivery tonight so far, I don't think they'll miss me."
Even Tobias jumps a little at that thunderclap, quickly stepping out of the way so Olee can come inside. And oh, hell, if it hadn't been for him wanting pizza, the poor guy wouldn't have had to go out in that after all.
"You can stay as long as you want, I can't send you back out into the typhoon."
He shuts the door before the whole storm comes blowing inside.
It's a standard cheap motel room, which means sitting options are one creaky, questionably-upholstered chair and a bed. Tobias makes himself real busy with digging cash out of his bag and hopes he's not coming off like a serial killer.
In all seriousness, the thought of Tobias being a serial killer had crossed Olee's mind, but he had faith that he could win in a fight. He places the pizza and pizza case down on the questionable chair and then shrugs his jacket off.
When he wasn't covered in a baggy coat, Olee was rather bulldog shaped. He ruffled his hair with his fingers and tried to coax it back into shape but eventually decided it was a lost cause. Oh well.
"Thanks. We may actually close if it gets much worse. I can probably text Ross and see. Hey, what kind of pizza did you order?" Olee eyed it completely and without shame.
"Oh, uh...sausage, pepperoni, and peppers. With extra pepper flakes."
He knows exactly where this is going, but really he can't complain after he made the poor guy come all the way out here. Idly, he thinks that the guy's hair is a pretty cool color, even if blue isn't normally his favorite.
Olee sprouted a wide grin as the redhead described what he'd braved the storm to bring him. That sounded fantastic! He tugged out his phone and thumbed away on it for a moment before tucking it away again.
"That is so nice! Thank you!" He didn't open the box though because he wasn't THAT shameless. Unlike the rest of his coworkers, he prefered an edible tip. With that squared away, he started looking around the room as if he'd never stayed in a crappy motel before. Which he hadn't! He was technically staying inside one for the next hour so it counted now. "This place is nice. I can see why--"
He trailed off. Saying he could see why humans drove so far just to find these places might come off as weird.
Tobias grins back; he doesn't mind sharing the pizza. Honestly, Olee's pretty well earned it. He opens up the box and pulls out a slice for himself, nudging the box in Olee's direction so that he can take one for himself.
He's already got a giant bite in his mouth within two seconds, so he can't really say anything, but he's curious about that trail off. Especially since this place isn't exactly what anyone would call nice. At all.
Mouth still occupied, Olee offered up a shrug-- or at least he thought he did. He'd shrugged his wings which were not on this plane of existence for the moment. So it looked like he just gave Tobias this thousand-hard stare with a face full of pizza.
But when the channel did not change, it dawned on him and he nearly choked.
"Oh! Uh! Anything's cool. If you're just passing through, you could check out our town his a local station that's always live. They have music or auctions. Things like that. I wonder if they're saying anything about this weather."
Tobias' grin gets a little awkwardly strained when his question is greeted with that stare, but...maybe this guy's just shy? That would explain a lot of the weird little quirks he's noticing...
"Heh, okay, local station it is. Let's see..."
He flips through the channels until he finds what looks like it's probably a local station? Maybe? He doesn't TV enough to know for sure, but he leaves it there, hoping it's the right one. It's playing music, but there's been a little weather alert stripe on the bottom of every channel, warning that the storm is getting worse and to stay indoors.
"Oh, uh. Shit. Maybe you should stay until it dies down more..." hopefully that didn't sound too much like HOW BOUT YOU STAY THE NIGHT WITH ME PIZZA GUY, HURR HURR oh god. He adds, quickly, "But hey, this music is catchy!"
Olee happily turns his attention to the TV but with all the beeping and red ALERT bars, his spirits slowly, slowly dampen. Oh, man. He hasn't seen a storm like this in ages. By the time Tobias makes his offer, Olee's mouth has worked itself into a concerned little slant.
"I think I should. I don't really want to get struck by lightning again. Zero out of ten, would not recommend."
"I guess it is." Olee's mouth then slants in the other direction as he looks thoughtfully at the pizza box. "One time. I was outside during a storm and got struck by lightning."
THERE'S YOUR STORY, TOBIAS.
And for a little while, it was looking like that was all Olee was going to say. But then he turned his attention back to Tobias and broke into an enormous, Totoro grin.
Olee was quick to wriggle out of his jacket and then off came the tank top. The man, while short, was not unlike a bulldog in that he was fucking built. He twisted around and pointed down his back. From one shoulder, a sprawling web-like scar of raised flesh stood out in sharp relief against his dark skin.
Oh well okay then, Tobias wasn't expecting Olee to take off his whole shirt. He'd thought maybe lifting up the side or something.
Aside from the scar looking cool, of course, Olee is certainly not bad looking. Tobias clears his throat, and then remembers the original point of the shirt removing and nods appreciatively.
"Whoa. You were right, that's cool as hell. If you're going to have a big scar, lightning is probably the way to go."
"Haha, yup. I do wish the ringing in my ear would go away though." Olee started wriggling back into his shirt. "It happened a couple of years ago. I used to be scared of thunder storms but then I realized, what are the chances of that happening again? I don't need to be scared. That's silly."
"Why would I do that?" Olee asked once his head reappeared. That was one hypothetical situation he hadn't heard of before. He pushed his hair back into place and invited himself to take another slice of pizza.
"Quick Olee." He held his non pizza hand out for Tobias to take.
Olee does in fact notice that. It's chilly outside with all the rain and wind and motel heating systems were not exactly famous. But instead of simply asking if the guy was okay like a normal human being, the pizza guy opts for just...staring at it the way one might an error they'd never seen before popped up on their computer screen.
Tobias looks down at his hand, which is still being held. He looks back up at Olee.
UH...SHOULD HE...?
There's really not much he can do about being Too Warm, but usually people just ask if he's sick, not stare at his hand like it's an alien. Has he slipped up and wound up on the Too Too Warm side of things? He tries to carefully pull his hand out of the shake.
Olee lets him go and actually stares at his own hand before pressing it to his own face to feel the difference. Boy howdy there still was one. He then gives Tobias a look and tilts his head.
Was he a demon? Was there about to be a throwdown here in this super nice motel room? Olee sure hoped not. He was so nice!

"Hm?"

Olee promptly crammed the pizza into his own face so he wouldn't have to answer. Instead he gestured to the the television.
SO ABOUT THAT THERE TALKY PICTURE BOX HUH.

Tobias shrugs, grinning again and reaching for the remote.
"Yeah, we can watch TV. I don't usually get to."
At least he knows how remotes work. The screen blips on, grainy and with bad sound, to some nature documentary.
"Any channel you want to watch?"
He doesn't know any channels, and Olee is a local, right? He'd probably know what was good around here.

There's a small part of Tobias that is really kind of disappointed that he's putting his shirt back on already.
He tells that part to shut up, he doesn't even know this pizza guy's name...
Although that part can be fixed. And probably should have been already, whoops. His grin gets more sheepish.
"And hey, sorry I haven't introduced myself yet. I probably should, right? I'm Tobias, what about you?"
no subject
"Quick Olee." He held his non pizza hand out for Tobias to take.

He reaches out and shakes Olee's hand, and Olee might notice that his hand is really unusually warm, almost like he's got a fever.
